Yup, you can set the battle size (overal troop count on the field) manually. The games engine can currently handle only 2048 entities at the same time if I'm correct. Also horses count to that number too. So 500vs500 is the max currently, since if the battle was 500vs500 cavalry, that would be 2000 entities already.
